Origanum onites. Perennial.
Also known as the 'Turkish oregano' this has dark green leaves and clusters of pale pink flowers in the summer.
Position: Plant in well-drained, chalky soil in full sun. Ideal for pots and tubs.
Care: Keep well watered until established and in dry weather.
Harvest: Pick fresh young leaves from the top of the plant. For drying, gather the leaves before the plant flowers.
Uses: Add to the final stages of cooking to add a strong thyme-like flavour. Leaves & stems can be used in pot-pourri.
